Discover Why Others are Calling Rowing the Perfect Exercise

16 Jan

We all know that there are many different aspects to being physically fit. Cardio endurance, muscle strength, muscle endurance, flexibility, and mobility are all important.  Doing separate workouts for each would take a lot of time, which most of us don’t have.

People often refer to indoor rowing as the perfect exercise because it addresses many types of fitness at the same time.

DID YOU KNOW?

  • When done properly, rowing uses about 85% of the muscles in your body. In one workout you have effectively worked you upper and lower body as well as your core.
  • Rowing provides resistance training which builds stronger bones and muscles.
  • Rowing challenges your aerobic and anaerobic systems for a well-rounded cardio workout.
  • This low impact exercise makes it a great choice for people with joint issues.
  • You can burn up to 800 calories per hour (maybe more) making it a great workout for weight loss and fat burning.
  • Rowing is a full-body, multi-joint workout that can help increase your flexibility and mobility.
  • A rowing workout it adjustable making it great for all fitness levels.

Has the Winter Weather Wrecked Havoc with Your New Year’s Resolution?

07 Jan

92% of people fail to keep their New Year’s Resolutions.

Are you one of them?  I think if we took a survey of people in the Charleston area this year we’d find that a lot have already let their resolutions slip!

The beginning of January brought snow to the area that hasn’t been seen in close to 30 years.  And let’s face it, we are not prepared for snow!  I have repeatedly heard from friends and clients that they hadn’t left the house in days.  For most, this forced hibernation means no exercise and an increase in eating – especially comfort foods.

That is a sure-fire way to break our resolutions before they really get a chance to start!

Does that mean that we are destined to spend 2018 in the same place  we were during 2017?

Of course not!!  If you are committed to more than “sticking to a resolution” but instead to creating a lifestyle change then this unexpected snow delay is merely that – a delay.

When we try to stick to a resolution we typically say, “I won’t do this,” or “I’m giving up that,” or “I will ABCD every day” and either we do it or we don’t and missing one day usually creates a downward slide we can’t recover from.

On the other hand, creating a lifestyle change requires goal setting, planning, commitment, and re-evaluation but it can last.  Creating a life style change is a journey.  We may move forward quickly at times, slower at others, and occasionally not at all but the difference is that we keep going.  It is the understanding of the process that helps us take our “bad” days, learn from them and then keep moving forward.

Is your goal to lose 20 pounds (and probably gain it back) or is your goal to create a lifestyle of exercise and nutrition that leads to weight loss and keeps it off? You’ve probably heard the quote, “a dream without a plan is just a wish.”  Planning is key to knowing the steps you need to take toward our goal and when you’ve met them.

Once we know our goals and have a plan, we are ready to move forward into new territory.  We have to realize that some days we will be perfect in following our plan and other days we will really mess it up.  But, because we have a plan, we don’t quit. We re-evaluate and keep moving forward.  That is how we accomplish a life style change.
